What I’m Reading & Watching This Week – DT014

What I’m Reading & Watching This Week – Daily Thoughts 014

So I’m gonna try something for the next couple of Thursdays. As I mentioned earlier this week, I go through a lot of content and not all of it is interesting or great. Therefore, I wanted to share some highlights with you just in case you completely missed something or didn’t have a chance to look. The vast majority of these articles will be related to photography, but you might occasionally find some music or DJ-related content like this one: Best Gifts for DJs – Christmas 2017.

How to Use Lightroom Target Collections – Daily Thoughts 013

Today’s post might be covering something that is common knowledge for those of you that have been using Lightroom for quite a while — how to use Lightroom Target Collections to pick the best photos from a shoot. It took me a couple months after initially using the software to learn it, so maybe there are a few of you newbies out there that’ll draw some value from it.

The Benefits of Traveling Light – DT012

The Benefits of Traveling Light – Daily Thoughts 012

Tuesday was an extremely long day, hence the delay on this post. It is Tuesday still somewhere in the world, so all good!

I was up super early to fly out to Osaka, and on the flight I was thinking about what I’d write for today. The biggest thing that stuck out for me during packing for this trip is the evolution of what I take with me for travel photography, so I thought I’d expand upon that.

My Favorite App for Photography-Related Content – DT011

My Favorite App for Photography-Related Content – Daily Thoughts 011

Since I’m passionate about photography, I’m always thirsty for content related to it. I don’t use my smartphone all that much throughout the day, but one app in particular gets my vote for photography news, updates, tips & tricks, and inspiration. That app is Flipboard, and no, they aren’t paying me to write this.

The Early Days – DT009

The Early Days – Daily Thoughts 009

Well I think today’s post should actually be titled: “Always Save a Draft of Your Posts While Writing”. I spent 30 minutes writing out a lengthy post describing my journey into photography and what I learned during the early days, only to have it suddenly vanish without an undo option. *Pauses to save this draft.*

Gaining Instagram Exposure via Hubs – DT008

Gaining Instagram Exposure via Hubs – Daily Thoughts 008

As I was thinking about what to write today, I realized that I haven’t touched much on Instagram marketing and tactics yet. In today’s post I’m going to review one of the best ways to grow your account and gain exposure to audiences that just might follow you and your work.

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you may remember a couple of posts relating to Instagram, including this post on my inspiring photography hubs. I like to write about what’s familiar to me, and social media (mainly Instagram) marketing was my primary focus for over a year. I absorbed an enormous amount of content on the subject, ran accounts for clients, and consulted for users looking to build their accounts.

My Full Photography Post-Processing Workflow – Daily Thoughts 007

In today’s post I’m going to be outlining the various software that I use for my photography post-processing workflow. To give you as much information as possible, I’m going to approach this as if I was going all-out on an image that is going to a client. While I may not use all of these for a typical Instagram post, I will use most, if not all, of these for the really important images.

I Bought My First Fuji Camera – DT006

I Bought My First Fuji Camera – Daily Thoughts 006

Well, the title of this post pretty much says it all. I did indeed purchase my first Fuji camera over the weekend — the X-T2.

It’s no secret that I have been using mid-range Nikon DSLRs and the Sony RX100 IV for most of my photography for 2017. I didn’t exactly need a new camera for professional purposes, but I was growing tired of a few things with my other cameras and was itching for an upgrade.

After spending hours and hours researching camera possibilities, it was a pretty close race between a full-frame Nikon and the Fuji. I already had several Nikon lenses, but if I was going full-frame, all but one of them (50mm 1.4D) would be fully compatible. Knowing that I’d have to make new lens purchases, even with a Nikon, opened up a good opportunity to switch brands.
