How to Install Luminar Presets

This post is a guide for how to install Luminar presets — both custom presets and preset packs from sources like Macphun. While, it’s quite easy, it isn’t as simple as double-clicking the preset file you’ve downloaded. Follow the steps below and bookmark this page so you can reference it at any time.

How to Install Custom Luminar Presets

Currently all presets purchased or downloaded from The Creativv Shop will need to be installed using this method.

  1. Open the Luminar standalone application. (This step will not work if you’ve opened Luminar as a plugin from another application such as Photoshop, Lightroom, or Aperture.)
  2. Click File > Show Presets Folder…
  3. Drop all *.lmp preset files directly into the “Custom” folder within the “Presets” folder. If you don’t see a “Custom” folder, create it first.
  4. Restart the Luminar application.
  5. You should now see the presets you added under the “User” tab of the preset section at the bottom of the window. If you don’t see the presets panel, click the panel’s show/hide icon in the top-right corner of the application window.

How to Install Luminar Preset Packs

Use this method if you’ve downloaded a preset pack from a source like Macphun.

  1. Open the Luminar standalone application. (This step will not work if you’ve opened Luminar as a plugin from another application such as Photoshop, Lightroom, or Aperture.)
  2. Click File > Add Custom Presets Pack.
  3. Select the pack you wish to add to Luminar from your hard drive.t
  4. A new category should be created in the presets panel, allowing you to access the presets you’ve just imported. If you don’t see the presets panel, click the panel’s show/hide icon in the top-right corner of the application window.

So that’s all there is to it. If you forget how to install Luminar presets or if the process ever changes, you can check back here for more information. If you’re a Lightroom user, you might be interested in learning about installing those presets here. Until then, happy editing!
